Meet Hanifah, Viola, Honey, and Gloria.
We often say that RUHU is more than an organization; it’s a family. And today, we’re honored to share powerful examples of that truth coming full circle.
Four of our university and vocational school graduates—once raised and supported by RUHU—are now serving as staff members, pouring their time, talents, and hearts into the very place that helped shape them.
Hanifah and Viola work side by side in the RUHU head office, where their dedication shines every day. Hanifah, who graduated from Makerere University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, now serves as RUHU’s Accounts Assistant. She brings integrity and deep personal commitment to her work. Viola, a graduate of YMCA Comprehensive Institute with a Certificate in Secretarial Studies, plays a vital role in our Career Relations Department, acting as the primary point of contact for our current university and vocational students. Viola ensures that each student is supported and encouraged along their educational journey. Together, Hanifah and Viola are the heartbeat of the RUHU office. They greet every visitor with warmth and joy—no one leaves without a smile on their face and a few good laughs. We are deeply grateful for the energy, care, and positivity they bring to the job every single day.
Honey, a graduate of Martyrs University with a Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, has joined RUHU’s farm team. He now teaches gardening and small-scale farming at the RUHU Secondary School. When we spoke with him, Honey shared how thankful he is for this opportunity to take what he has learned and give back by passing on these skills to the next generation. For him, it’s not just about farming, it’s about giving back to the very community that once nurtured him. He is eager to equip RUHU’s young people with practical skills and the confidence to use them. His passion for teaching and commitment to sustainable agriculture are a true gift to our students.
And Gloria, a recent graduate of the YMCA Comprehensive Institute with a Certificate in Cosmetology, now teaches RUHU’s vocational cosmetology classes. Once a student herself, Gloria now stands confidently at the front of the classroom, sharing her skills. With gentleness and creativity, she empowers her students—especially young women—to see their potential. Her presence is more than instructional; it’s deeply encouraging. Gloria knows what it’s like to dream of a better future, and she brings that understanding into her teaching.
Seeing these young people return to RUHU—not as students, but as mentors and leaders—is a powerful reminder of why we do this work. We are so proud of who they’ve become and deeply honored to walk this journey with them.
Each of these young adults once needed the support of RUHU, and your support made that possible. Now, they are guiding and empowering others, building futures, and living proof of what’s possible when compassion and opportunity meet.
