What Your Generosity Builds: Life Beyond RUHU

What Comes After Graduation? Stewart’s Story

Meet Stewart.

Every day, Stewart walks the bustling streets of Kampala, loaded down with the weight of his goods, but with determination in his step and hope in his heart. He sells merchandise under the hot sun, walking far distances and working tirelessly to earn a living and support himself. His days are long, and the challenges are many, whether it’s covering miles on foot, guarding his merchandise, or avoiding trouble with authorities due to a lack of formal credentials.

Before getting into the street vending (hawking) business, Stewart graduated from a program in electrical wiring and electronics. While work in that field has been hard to come by, Stewart doesn’t let that stop him. He works tirelessly each day, determined to build a future. As Stewart works hard each day to support himself, RUHU’s Career Relations Department searches for safer, more stable, and higher-paying employment, but a better alternative has yet to be found.

Success doesn’t look the same for everyone, and that’s okay. For Stewart, success means surviving each day, providing for himself with dignity, and refusing to give up despite the odds. In a place where opportunities can be scarce, his resilience speaks volumes.

Stewart dreams of one day owning his own shop, a place where he can sell his products freely, legally, and with pride. A place where he can provide repair services using the skills he worked hard to learn. And though the journey hasn’t been easy, Stewart keeps moving forward with determination and a belief that better days lie ahead.

We see you, Stewart. Your strength inspires us. Keep going. We’re rooting for you, and we believe in the future you’re building.
