What Comes After Graduation? Simon’s Story
Meet Simon.
Simon is one of RUHU’s proud graduates and has been with RUHU since the early beginnings. His journey shows us that success doesn’t always follow a traditional path—and that with perseverance, hard work, and the right support, it’s possible to overcome obstacles and build a meaningful future.
During our recent visit with Simon, he opened up about the challenges he faced transitioning from a RUHU beneficiary, where support was available, to having to navigate things on his own. It wasn’t easy, but he shared how, once he began providing for himself, he discovered a sense of pride and motivation that pushed him to work even harder.
School was never easy for Simon, so traditional university or institute programs weren’t possible. But RUHU saw Simon’s potential, and they also understood that he needed a practical path to provide for himself. They connected him with a tile businessman willing to mentor him through a hands-on apprenticeship, where he gained not just technical skills, but also learned the value of hard work, discipline, and attention to detail.
While Simon still takes on tiling side jobs when available, his primary work is at Kikobo Enterprises, an import and distribution center, where he’s employed full-time. During our recent visit, his boss praised him as dependable and hardworking. With guidance from RUHU’s Career Relations Department, Simon secured stable employment, and through his own discipline and determination, he has already earned a promotion. He’s not only meeting his daily needs but has also saved enough to purchase a bicycle, making his commute to work more reliable and cost-effective.
We are incredibly proud of the man Simon’s become and all that he has accomplished. In a country where opportunities can be limited, Simon has shown that with support, hard work, and belief in oneself, it’s possible to rise above the odds.
Keep soaring, Simon. Your RUHU and BR family are cheering you on every step of the way.
