Friends and Supporters of Raising Up Hope for Uganda,THANK YOU to everyone who donated to support Raising Up Hope during this difficult time! We just passed our goal of $10,000! We are so grateful for those who have stood with us and responded to the needs of our brothers and sisters in Uganda!
Below is an update we received from Patrick to pass on to all of you. Patrick asked that we not post this full message on Facebook due to concern that the Ugandan government will find out that RUHU has provided assistance to their community.
The world is in the grips of the biggest crisis for a generation and we hope you and your families are all safe and well during this difficult time. Whilst the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Uganda is still low, the government has taken measures to try to control the spread of the disease. Schools, places of worship and all non-food markets have been closed for at least 30 days and public and private transport has been suspended. People are, understandably, scared; a few days without work, for many, means no food on the table. At Raising Up Hope, prior to the school closures, the whole team worked round the clock to educate our children and families in the community on this virus. How to prevent its spread and what to do if sick. Walking through the community on the last day of school, our social workers were hailed with cries of “WASH YOUR HANDS!” – leaving us confident that the message was being heard! We have given our beneficiaries everything we can, and it is now our responsibility to keep all the kids and hard-working and dedicated staff at RUHU safe.
We wish to say a heartfelt thank you to all our sponsors and donors who are continuing to support us during this time. Thanks to your continued generosity, we so far have been able to purchase enough food for the children and buy soap, sanitizer and masks for them. We also were able to provide some things to the elderly people in the community to keep them healthy during this crisis. We will now also be able to support all the families who have taken in our children with food, soap, sanitizer and masks. Thank you!
Please all take care, stay inside, and continue to follow the procedures as advised by the authorities. Together we will stem the flow of this virus.
Love, Patrick
