DAY SIX WAS SECONDARY SCHOOL DAY!
We started the day at Village of Hope (VOH) which is primarily home to the RUHU Secondary school but also includes the VOH clinic, church, and farm. Currently, the RUHU Secondary school provides “O level” education which is years 1-4. The goal is to expand the school to include “A level” which would be years 5-6. Ultimately, this expansion would create a more sustainable educational model for RUHU and Beautiful Response.
We began our VOH tour with Martin, the head farmer, who shared the great work he is doing and his vision for expanding the farm. This expansion would allow Martin to grow additional maize which is the primary ingredient in posho (the most common meal at RUHU’s homes and schools) and raise additional livestock, greatly reducing food expenses across the organization.
After that, we joined the students in the church where we enjoyed a beautiful performance by the RUHU choir and listened to inspiring speeches from students and staff. We had the opportunity to tour the Secondary school grounds, visit with several of the students, and share a meal before we had to leave. We would have loved to stay all day but were on a mission to see as many of the Secondary students as possible.
We then visited Sam’s Park and St. Mark’s, two other Secondary schools that RUHU students attend. It was heartwarming to see the students’ passion and excitement as they gave us a tour of their schools and shared their experiences. It was amazing to witness their growth since I first visited RUHU (many of whom I remember being in primary school the first time I visited!). I am so grateful that I am able to be a part of their journey.
