DAY ONE WAS WELCOME DAY!
We started off the day by visiting the Girls’ and Boys’ homes, the new House of Hope, and finished with a welcome ceremony at the RUHU Primary school. At the Boys’ Home, we had the privilege of meeting the 7 new boys who had just been brought to RUHU from the Bwaise slum. We then spent the afternoon at slum outreach in Bwaise which involved serving a hot meal, reading and writing with the little ones, teaching the older boys how to make liquid soap to sell, and engaging in a craft with the girls and young mothers. We also met RUHU’s new slum outreach partner, CREATIVE GENERATIONS, which utilizes painting as a way for street kids to express their stories and the trauma they’ve experienced. What a great first day!
