RUHU Trip Day Four!

DAY FOUR WAS MEDICAL OUTREACH DAY!

Medical outreaches are rigorous and demanding, often requiring lengthy travel to reach remote villages in need of services. On our visit, we traveled for two hours to provide medical care to a village the RUHU medical team had visited recently. Due to the overwhelming number of individuals in need of attention during their first visit, we returned for a second outreach to ensure that everyone received the care they required.

Unfortunately, many people in Uganda face significant barriers to accessing affordable, high-quality medical care due to their remote location and extreme poverty. That’s why RUHU’s medical team travels to various rural villages to conduct free medical outreaches where medical care is limited or simply unaffordable. During these outreaches, different members of the team screen, evaluate and treat patients.

Mackenzie and I were happy to assist in any way we could! We received training by the medical team to assist in the lab area where blood samples were tested for a variety of diseases and conditions such as malaria, typhoid, syphilis, HIV, and ulcers. We also provided support in the pharmacy area, where medications were distributed as prescribed by the medical team.

Despite being out of our comfort zone, this was an experience we will never forget. It provided a new perspective and appreciation for the importance of this work and the tremendous commitment and dedication of this team.
