As the holiday season nears, we’re reminded that Christmas at RUHU isn’t just about gifts or parties—it’s about restoring dignity, joy, and hope to children, students, and families who might otherwise go without celebration.
Your generosity makes it possible for every child in RUHU’s care to experience the warmth of Christmas through meaningful programs and outreach events. This season, our Giving Tuesday campaign will focus on raising funds to bring those moments of joy to life.
Giving Tuesday is on Tuesday, December 2nd. Our goal is to raise a total of $45,000. As Giving Tuesday approaches, we invite you to prepare your hearts and minds for a day of global generosity. Together, we can ensure every child at RUHU feels the love and joy of Christmas. Here’s the breakdown of what this money supports:
Slum Outreach Christmas ($8,715) – Every December, RUHU teams visit the slums to provide meals, free medical care, activities, and gifts to the most vulnerable children in the community. Each child receives a package of clothing, shoes, soap, toothpaste, and a small festive treat to remind them they are seen and loved.
RUHU Christmas ($10,625) – For children living in RUHU’s homes, Christmas is a day filled with excitement and belonging. Last year, the kids visited Entebbe Beach—an opportunity to laugh, play, and celebrate freely. This year, RUHU hopes to make that joy possible again while also spending a day at a local amusement park. Each child is also provided with new clothing and shoes and a celebratory Christmas meal.
University Students & Graduates Christmas ($6,250 combined) – Our current university and graduate students are celebrated through a holiday meal, encouragement, and small gifts that acknowledge how far they’ve come and that they are still a part of the RUHU family. These moments remind them that they are loved and their hard work is noticed.
RUHU Staff & Board Christmas ($5,530) – Behind every child’s transformation is a team of dedicated staff and teachers. RUHU’s annual Christmas dinner celebrates them with tokens of appreciation—such as household essentials and recognition awards—to honor their impact and commitment.
Holiday Vocational Skilling & Transformation Workshops ($13,380 total) – During the school break, RUHU provides vocational training to keep 80–100 students learning and engaged. Classes in cosmetology, tailoring, welding, and computer skills empower youth with practical knowledge they can use to build sustainable futures. At the same time, Holiday Transformation Workshops support 150–200 youth with mentorship, life skills, and counseling, helping them enter the new year with purpose and confidence.
Muwala Mulungi Christmas Outreach Project ($500) – Through the Muwala Mulungi Christmas outreach, approximately 100 vulnerable individuals and families are supported with items like sugar, soap, rice, and snacks. The initiative ensures that those most in need experience the joy and dignity of a shared holiday meal.
Why It Matters – For children and youth at RUHU, these are so much more than events; they are celebrations with their family and activities of joy and hope. They restore confidence, nurture community, and help every child know they are valued and loved.
