In February of 2011, we filed the paperwork for Beautiful Response to be a registered non-profit.
In so many ways, the work is the same today as it was back then. You can see in the photos below a recent group of boys who have come to call RUHU home. These boys were identified in Kampala’s slums, and RUHU’s social workers will get to know their stories and seek to provide them with hope and a future. Unfortunately, the need in Uganda is as great as it has ever been. On our end, we are still trying to raise funds for food, staffing, mattresses, mosquito nets, and all the essentials that help us piece together a new future for these young kids. The goal of RUHU is still to raise up leaders and productive members of their Ugandan community.
In other ways, the work has changed dramatically. This is most evident at the Thomas Robert Lochner farm and the RUHU Vocational School at the Village of Hope, where we are building infrastructure that serves a Ugandan population we weren’t thinking about 15 years ago. Fifteen years ago, we were addressing malnutrition, basic education, and water security. Today, we still fund those needs, but we are also addressing unemployment, skills training, food sustainability, and staff retention.
We’ve learned so much along the way, and we are so proud to be standing with you fifteen years later. Hundreds (thousands?) of kids have been impacted along the way. Thank you for partnering with us. We love being in this alongside you.
