If you are like me, over the past few weeks of Covid-19 quarantine, you have been looking back on your problems longingly. A few months ago, our church had to move an event to a new location. It felt like a MAJOR issue. Now we’re trying to allay life and death anxieties and plan for a virtual Easter service.
A pandemic puts things in perspective. When I look back on RUHU in 2011, I feel similarly. We were adjusting to rising food prices and deciding whether to pay for a domain for our website. We had to wait a few months for our trip to Uganda because we didn’t have the money. Those issues all seem quaint, in hindsight. In 2020, RUHU is dealing with young adults and the decision-making of teenagers. They are handling the complex Human Resources problems that come from a growing organization. We have dealt with government over-regulation and now we are dealing with the effects of Uganda’s response to the virus.
But looking back on 2011 also reminds me of how transformational the last ten years of partnership have been. We were hopeful about the future, but we didn’t know what it held. We just knew that, as one note from a volunteer in 2011 put it, “Raising up Hope For Uganda is THE REAL DEAL.”
I will close with these lines from a song that was timely in 2011 and are just as timely today.
“Lord God of Mercy we give you glory.
Lord God of mercy we give you praise.
For all you’ve done in us,
For all you’ve done in us,
We give you praise!”

Respond
A theology of “response” was core to who we wanted to be as an organization. Responding to something is different than starting something. We started a non-profit to partner with Patrick and William as a response to the work they were already doing. We believe God is at work through people doing good all over the world, we want to respond.
Our new campaign, RESPOND, is centered around providing the recurring monthly financial support needed to follow through on the vision of Patrick and William to run a primary and secondary school that provides an excellent education for the kids in their neighborhood who cannot afford to pay for one of the private schools. At the link below, you can partner with us to respond to what God is doing through RUHU by giving a recurring gift that supports a student, a teacher, provides a scholarship, or empowers a future leader.
